Each day I leave the gym sweaty and spent, nutrition pops into my head. Specifically the questions that our lovely members are seeking answers and advice on. A HUGE conversation I have heard/had lately that I have yet to answer wholeheartedly and with complete explanation is that of "I would like to speak with you about nutrition, what do I need to do to reach ________ goal." Every single time, Coach Fonseca and I have answered this question differently based upon individual needs. However, our knowledge in the Triumph Kitchen runs deep about nutrition, specifically sports nutrition, with certification hours and projects and years of creating and writing meal plans that have proven to work for those who have dedicated their time and energy towards meeting their goals.
I want each of you to take a minute and reflect on the different programs you have completed. By this I mean Weight Watchers, 24-Day Challenge, among the hundreds of others offered to us. What has EACH and every program had in common? All come with the small asterisk at the bottom saying "results not typical." Each program also indicates it must be paired with diet and exercise I order to maximize results. Each program is generally a one size fits all program.
I have had wonderful friends and clients get results on programs. What I am going to talk to you about today is not specifically the programs as I have not spent hours researching the specifics of each program. I know they are all similar, backed with doctors and scientists helping nutritionally and safely develop product. I know they each have different absorption rates, some switch stevia for sucralose, some provide only a few products and others replace your meals completely. What do I know, as a sports nutritionist?
First, I instantly ask, after the completion of the program, what comes next? What does continuing to get results look like? Is the program now a replacement for your everyday food in order to maintain? We all need to think past the month of dedication and know what our or the programs maintenance plan is. I also know that people need and crave structure. We crave convenience in our busy lives. If it is easy, others are getting results seemingly effortlessly with minimal sacrifice, we all want a part. Trust me, the magic pill is something we all want. Programs can help us get results quick, but do they TEACH us what to do afterwards? Is there education about balancing your macro-nutrients to aid weight-loss or alter them for muscle gain? Once your results slow down, do you know how to adjust your intake so you can continue to get even MORE results? I know. I am asking a lot of questions because I want our brains to be probed with nutritional thought and awareness. This is where individual nutritional coaching at Triumph comes into play.
As sports nutritionist, we evaluate your body through a scan. We take measurements to see where your physical numbers are and assess healthy weightless within a period of time. For some clients, we have referred them to specific programming to help jump start in reaching goals; to help focus and follow a relatively uncomplicated set of nutritional and exercise expectations. Others, we've talked specifically and only about food. Some- we've talked about additional training paired with food in order to reach goals. We work to meet each of you where you are at and constantly are able to help move you forward through adjusting calories and macro-nutrients so you never peak. We write individual meal plans because we all know that Coach Fonseca and I should not be on the same calories due to body weight/composition and exertion during WODs. We have different outputs, different body fat percentages, different body composition therefore, one size programming does not fit all.
We want to work with you to educate you about food and how to learn your macros. We want to teach you how to fish and build that body you are seeking. Nutritional coaching is the most valuable aspect of Triumph. We already know Coach Fonseca's fitness programming is awesome, so just imagine if we all dedicated ourselves to learning his capabilities of nutritional programming to get you real results from real food (how to choose, when to eat, and how to measure our food) what results we'd get.
