In all aspects of our life- how do we achieve in earning real results? Think about your job. How have you gotten results? I find in the areas of my life that I have been successful in reaching and achieving results it is because I started digging into the depths of understanding. I researched, I read, I applied the skills I was learning, I reached out to other professionals for help, information, and ideas. My students get results because I work hard. I have worked hard for the past 13 years to help my students get results. It all started in 2002 when I began my journey through college to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and finally my Masters Degree in Education. Incredibly, the hard work didn't stop when I earned my teaching license and rolled on into my first classroom of 27 third graders. In fact, each year- I have had to work harder, learning new strategies and practices. Everyday, I battle the little brains that have developed in a near effortless childhood, obsessed with technology, and often act impulsively. Everyday, I want a magic learning pill or wand. The fact of the matter is, since no magic wand exists, I had to learn and implement strategies on how to teach these kids about their brains and how they can control their intelligence. Then, I was able to teach them content that we worked with GREAT EFFORT into their long term memory.
You see, our brain has three types of memory. We have our Sensory Memory- it lasts only a millisecond. It is driven by our senses (sight, touch, hearing, taste, feeling) we see something and process it quickly and our brain decides if we keep the new information to process into our working memory or not. Our Working Memory (short-term) can hold information for a couple hours if we practice repetition for information such as phone numbers, road names, people names, etc... Then we have our long-term memory, when we really dive deep and understand the information it can last for months or even years.
When we reflect on our expertise, our jobs require us to function in the long-term memory realm. We have to know, practice and apply those skills daily. We have to divulge information at the drop of a hat. We even have to provide proof of those real results we have become masters in achieving. Now imagine if we could dive into any job or realm without true knowledge, certification or degrees. Need surgery? Sure! Head over to Ms. Comfort's classroom, she's got scissors! Yikes! If we were thrown into positions within our lives, to either sink or swim, our world and minds would be a mess! Or, imagine if we were given all the important and pertinent information for our job success in one afternoon. We wouldn't realistically be able to hold that amount of information within our long-term memory. Our brain would pick and choose what to hold onto, and we would end up missing key pieces of information. We have to learn, practice and apply new information in gradual steps, with someone guiding us along the way- to answer our questions, help us up when fail, and to lead us to the next step when we are showing signs of readiness.
So, what does this have to do with Triumph Fitness? Let's reflect on why we go to Triumph Fitness. I can attest for many members, including myself, that Coach Fonseca knows his fitness programming and how to build muscles, aid in fat loss and help you achieve an overall healthier you. As his members, we don't truly understand his programming and why he chooses to piece exercises together. All we know is dang- that was LEG day. Ouch, my forearms are SORE. MORE pull-ups?? Burpees suck. I am pretty sure that is how we read the board at the gym.
I know... just try to keep following me. Stick with it until the end because my point is going to be a huge OPPORTUNITY for you!
