Water. It is one of the single most important parts of our nutritional health. Not just to stay hydrated but to also help us along our journey of fat loss AND muscle gain. However, I hate to admit that I am AWFUL with my water intake. I am lucky to get more than the water bottle I consume during the WOD. Mr. F, however, seems to be able to chug his gallon of water plus several cups throughout the day- no problem. So, I have taken on the challenge to increase my water intake to help me FEEL better, have more energy, aid me in performance and reduce bloat.
Part of my issue with water is that I am a flavor girl when it comes to drinking anything. If I WANT to drink it, I will. So, here is how I have successfully tackle drinking 80+ ounces of water a day. Keep in mind you want to drink half your body weight or more of water per day.
I have been familiar flavoring water with lemons, limes, etc... since I was little. I watched my mom constantly put lemons in her water. This is a great addition to water as lemon juice (sugar free!) has wonderful health benefits. However, I wanted a different flavor- so I went searching. I came across this great recipe.
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice (Real Lemon Juice or Freshly Squeezed Lemons)
2 Tablespoons Natural Cranberry Juice (Fred Meyer Organic Section)
1 Cup brewed Dandelion Tea (Fred Meyer Organic Section)
20+ ounces filtered water.
I mix mine up in my 40 ounce Hydroflask and drink throughout the morning. At lunch time, I make another entire Hydroflask of the same mix to drink throughout the afternoon. Yes, it is not straight good ol' water. However, it keeps me motivated to drink water and is not Crystal Light, Mio (still has sugar called "sucralose") nor any other product that claims to be "sugar-free" but just uses a different fancy name for sugar. This recipe has nutritional benefits from cranberry, lemon and dandelion tea. Here are the benefits:
-Cardiovascular Support: (antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, UTI protection, Lower cholesterol)
-Digestive Tract Benefits: (Balance of bacteria)
-Mouth and Gums
-Indigestion and Constipation
-Controls Blood Pressure
-Helps Support Weight Loss
-Relieves Joint Pain
If you are good at drinking your water, plain water, do it! That is all you need to hydrate your body and support weight loss- you don't need to add in the extras. However, if you are lacking in your water intake or drinking water with powder additives to supplement- then try the above recipe!
