Vitamins are considered to be a group of naturally occurring nutrients found in food and supplements. They are a required part of the diet for maintenance of health, metabolic functioning, growth, recovery and performance. Vitamins are essential because the human body doesn't make them at all or does not make an adequate enough amount. If we lack nutrients from vitamins symptoms will arise.

There are particular vitamins that can help athletic performance when taken within the Performance Daily Intakes (PDIs).
Sufficient vitamin intake can often be reached through real food consumption. However, dependent upon the PDIs for an athlete, supplementation may be required to achieve optimal benefits.
