Have you heard of the Thigh Gap movement?
No... for real...
I promise. Google "thigh gap" that simple. Pinterest "thigh gap" and just look.
I was SHOCKED. I was DISGUSTED by the articles. I was TORN apart from memories that blasted to the fore front of my brain.
One article that I came across stated "The thigh-gap workout: Meet the celebrity trainer who says you DON'T have to starve yourself to get supermodel legs."
Another said " Flat stomach, thigh gap, Are these weight loss progresses inspiring you? You want to have body like her? Get the same method to melt away 12-23 pounds of stubborn body fat in 21 days."
Um, what? I don't HAVE to starve myself to look like this?? No, there is no definition of healthy within these two photos. In fact... one of them was tagged "THINSPRIATION."
So, I go back to the article that we posted a few week ago attached with this image. It can be found here:
The article was titled "The Pornographication of Fitness Need to Stop"
Yes, we see photos splattered across the internet and fitness magazines with women showing off their muscles, their squatters booty, and abs. The muscles they trained and ate for. Powerful images of powerful women & men showing the world a new definition of beauty away from the supermodel thin that causes adolescents and women to seek unrealistic and utterly unhealthy ideals of the human body.
Sex sells. It sells fitness, beer, cars, and tires. We know that. The human mind is attracted to the pronographication of marketing. That has been around for decades.
So, the choice is ours. Which ideal would you rather have your four year old or your 14 year old seek and desire? I'll tell you the difference speaking from experience- the supermodel thin- that leads to a path of destruction. Unattainable without harming yourself immensely both physically and mentally. Nothing but attaining that ideal matters.
The fitness models- sure they have really nice bodies with incredible muscle definition. I know to earn that- I have to be in tip top training and nutrition dialed in. Most of all, I am not working for that image. It is inspiring, but what inspires me most is watching MY one rep max increase and my baseline time decrease. MY results in my fitness endeavors matter. I am healthy both body and mind.
So I end with #fuckthethighgap
